What

The 19th annual University of Alberta High School Model United Nations Conference is an opportunity for high school students to assume the role of delegates in simulated high-level meetings of United Nations committees including the Security Council and the General Assembly. Students research their country’s foreign policy position ahead of time, and then work in mock multilateral committees of approximately 80 delegates to draft, deliberate, and vote upon United Nations resolutions seeking solutions to global problems.

Where

The conference will be held remotely this year due to the public health circumstances.

When

The Conference will take place from April 30th-May 2nd, 2021. Registration, Opening Ceremonies, and our Keynote Address will be held on the evening of Friday, April 30th. Committee Sessions will take place over the following two days. An online social event will be held for all delegates on the evening of Saturday, May 1st. The plenary and closing sessions will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, May 2nd.

Cost

The cost for the conference is $25.00 per delegate.

For students experiencing financial difficulties, there are opportunities to receive a partial or full fee waiver. Fee subsidy application forms can be found on our website under the ‘Resources’ page.

Accommodation (N/A for 2021)

Out-of-city schools are responsible for finding their own accommodations in Edmonton. We recommend that students stay at the Lister Conference Center, which offers accommodation on the UofA Campus. For more information, visit https://conference.ualberta.ca/accommodation/guest-rooms.
